Dry The River + Arcane Roots + Goodnight Lenin

Birmingham Promoters & Miss Perry present:
Dry The River + Arcane Roots + Goodnight Lenin
Tue 30th Oct @ HMV Institute
Tickets available from: http://hmvinstitute.com

Since forming in spring 2009, Dry the River have toured extensively in the UK and Europe promoting their "careful mix of emotive, lilting folk and upbeat, impassioned rock'… NME.

Based in a shared two-bedroom house in Stratford, east London, the five came together via circuitous geographical and musical routes. Musically the back-history is no less varied, with the band citing an esoteric list of influences - Leonard Cohen, At the Drive-In, Neil Young, Arlo Guthrie, Neutral Milk Hotel , Bruce Springsteen and Devendra Banhart.

Their first single was issued by Transgressive Records in March 2011 after significant early radio support from BBC Introducing, including their 2010 Glastonbury appearance on the BBC Introducing stage…

Their subsequent run of UK festivals in 2011 included Glastonbury, Great Escape, iTunes Festival, Latitude, Lovebox, Hop Farm, Lounge on the Farm, Belladrum, Wilderness, Summer Sundae, Green Man, Reading and Leeds, End of the Road and Bestival etc and also many of the key festivals across europe.

ARCANE ROOTS

Arcane Roots are a London 3 piece who have just released their quite incredible debut mini album, 'Left Fire', to huge response of instant praise and acclaim across the board. In the last twelve months their debut release, 'Left Fire', has been named as one of Kerrang! Magazines top 100 records of 2011 and independently released singles 'You Are' and 'In This Town of Such Weather' have picked up large amounts of support across Radio 1, Kerrang! Radio and XFM in the UK. Influenced by the likes of Fall of Troy, Foals, Refused and At the Drive-In/The Mars Volta this stunning record manages to be ambitious and pop, heavy and epic, comfortingly familiar and something completely unique – fresh in equal measure and all at the same time.

"Arcane Roots sound so fresh, special, and deliciously unpredictable. Wherever they go next… It's sure to be a fascinating listen."- 8/10, Rocksound

Goodnight Lenin

Formed in the autumn of 2009, Goodnight Lenin's songs are reminiscent of the singer songwriters of the 1960s & 1970s, whilst still being relevant to the modern day listener. Inspired by the likes Dylan, CSN, The Band, Neil Young and Simon & Garfunkel, the band were soon coveted by local press and music aficionados alike after a video low key gig played in a friend's kitchen surfaced online. Shortly afterwards they were booked to headline the Lunar Stage at Moseley Folk Festival.

The aptly named 'Kitchen Tour' continued throughout the start 2010, whilst also playing shows with the likes of First Aid Kit and British Sea Power. First single 'Crook in the Creek' and 'The Wenceslas Square EP', were soon released through legendary label Static Caravan Recordings and they were blessed enough to receive their inaugural radio play on Guy Garvey's Finest Hour, BBC Radio 6 Music as well as receiving regular radio play from XFM and live sessions on BBC Radio 2, with the likes of Gideon Coe and Janice Long championing the band. With an Autumn single, a very special winter EP and debut album (recorded in analogue and mixed in by former Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen producer John Wood) planned for release, the next 12 months will see Goodnight Lenin continue to grow and develop their sound.
"This band was at the front of the queue when talent was handed out. Gifted musicians, supreme songwriters. If you see them live you get the added bonus of their witty and intelligent banter." - Janice Long, BBC Radio 2
