Grey Area presents Tom DemacTOM DEMAC + residents CAROLINE BANX & ERNEST 10pm - late @ Spotlight, Unit 2 Lower Trinity Street, B9 4AG FREE ENTRY For the second installment of Grey Area, we welcome Tom Demac to spotlight.......... It's now a few years since Tom Demac gave up his day job and took up making music full-time. He removed his cape, stepped out of the charming and convincing Web Design manager alter-ego, bought a £20 Argos coffee filter, bean grinder and multi packs of Rizla; and has spent every week day since hunched over his synths in the studio filling up ashtrays at a rate of nots. Having packed his boxes and swapped the rolling hills of Wales to move back to the red-brick terrace familiarity of his beloved Manchester, he shut himself in his room with some synths. There were no more inspirational beach walks, just trips down to Netto to grab some milk and get down to some serious music making. Soon after followed his 2 stand-out tracks Rivalry with Irony and Slip Slop Slap hitting monthly top 10 and top 30 respectively on Resident Advisor, a healthy year of gigging, taking his Live show to Fabric, Space - Ibiza, Mulletover, Freerotation and many other places in between (collecting a fine selection of club toilet photos along the way), being remixed by Soulphiction, Luke Solomon, Jamie Jones, Wolf and Lamb, Dave Aju etc…to completing his first Live artist compilation album. Then, to fulfil his dream of owning a fixy bike, came his move to the London capital, where we have seen a change in his fashion attire; he now sports a crown fitting wooly hat reminiscent of a northern 'where's wally'. It's not been a bad move either, as he has continued with his healthy gigging schedule and had releases and remixes out on some of the most respected underground electronic dance music labels such as Hypercolour, Liebe*Detail, Glass Table, murmur, My Favorite Robot Records. Demac has therefore truly earned himself a reputation as something of a crafty craftsmen -- his house sounds operate in a freaky little pocket all their own and seemed carved as if with different tools. Support comes from Grey Area residents Caroline Banx ( birthday girl ) and 'our man from Birmingham' Ernest. Entrance is free. Why wouldn't you?!?
